Qualified Borrowers
Faculty at Vermont Consortium of Academic Libraries (VCAL) member institutions are eligible to receive borrowing privileges at the University of Vermont Dana Health Sciences Library (phone: 802-656-2200 or email: [email protected] with questions).
Verification of Affiliation
Candidates for reciprocal borrowing privileges must present a valid institutional ID and documentation from their institution attesting to their faculty status at the time of requesting privileges.
Materials subject to Reciprocal Borrowing
Reciprocal borrowing is limited to a maximum of 10 books from the book collection of the University of Vermont Dana Health Sciences Library. No other materials are covered under this agreement. Participants may also use non-circulating materials (reference, periodicals) in the library as well as other library services, such as reference assistance and photocopy machines.
Loan Period
Books from the circulating collection are checked out for four weeks.
Renewals
Renewals are not allowed.
Holds and Searches
If you cannot locate a book on the shelf, check the CATQuest to see if the book has been checked out to someone else. Although we do not recall books for VCAL faculty borrowers, we will place a hold on an item. You will be notified by email when the requested book has been returned, and it will be held for you at the Main Desk for seven days.
If the book is not on the shelf and is not checked out, request that a search be conducted by notifying staff at the Main Desk.
Recalled Books
Materials borrowed are subject to recall by the lending institution when requested by a member of that institution's community. The minimum loan period for a recalled item is seven days. However, materials requested for course reserve are subject to immediate recall. If you do not return a recalled item by the date indicated on the recall notice, you will be charged a $15.00 recall overdue fee, and you will lose borrowing privileges until the book is returned to the library.
Overdue Materials and Fines
Overdue notices are sent by email. Library users are subject to charges. Each charged book is stamped with the due date. One overdue notice is sent before a charge notice is generated. Overdue notices are a courtesy. Failure to receive overdue notices does not exempt a user from overdue charges.
Overdue and Replacement Charges
If you do not return a book within ten days of the due date, you will incur a charge. An overdue transaction charge of $10.00 is charged for each book overdue plus the cost of replacing it. The home library of the delinquent borrower shall be ultimately held responsible for the payment of lost item fees.
Borrowing privileges may be revoked after you have been billed for two overdue and/or lost items
Interlibrary Loan
The Vermont Department of Libraries supports a very efficient interlibrary loan network to help you locate materials NOT available at UVM. If you need to obtain such materials, contact your own library in order to discuss interlibrary loan services. VCAL borrowing privileges do not include access to UVM's Interlibrary Loan Office.
